Weekly Running Recap: May 13-19, 2019

It’s Brooklyn Half week! It’s also my last full week of work before the summer program I direct begins…and I turn 30 next week…so there’s a lot of stuff on my mind!

monday, may 13

As part of the NYRR 9+1 program, I registered to volunteer for a Rising NYRR event (staffing a track and field event) this morning. Sadly, due to the weather, the event was cancelled…but I still got the volunteer credit. This means I’ve completed 1+1 of the program…8 races to go!

Today I dealt with two separate customer service people in Hebrew, and they were successful interactions! I mean, I’m still waiting for my bank transfer to go through, but I expected it to take awhile. Gotta love Israel–both a first world country and trapped in the 80s, at the same time!

After work, I joined the Whippets for an easy 5 mile run. It didn’t feel super easy, so it’s a reminder that I need to take my runs very easy this week, so I’m well-rested for the Brooklyn Half Marathon. But it was so fun, and the route along the Hudson (and the view of the Statue of Liberty!) is breath-taking.

tuesday, may 14

This morning, I did laundry in a laundromat for the first time since summer camp. (I do my own laundry, but I’ve always lived in buildings with laundry in the basement/in unit…first world problems!) Not gonna lie, the main reason I did laundry was because I’ve used ALL of my running shirts, and I don’t want to be smelly.

I was planning on running today, but during the work day I started developing cold symptoms (sore throat, head congestion), so I opted out of the workout.

wednesday, may 15

Today I felt better…but took the day off, to be safe.

thursday, may 16

Work day outside of Manhattan! And I missed a conveniently-timed train and didn’t get home until 10pm.

friday, may 17

Today I worked until 8:30, then went home and crashed, before the Brooklyn Half. (2 races down, 7 to go for the 9+1 program!)

saturday, may 18

Brooklyn Half Marathon!! Click here for the recap. I hated the first half, and loved the second half. If I could ever swing it, I’d definitely run the race again…but I’m not sure if/when that will be.

sunday, may 19

Rest day after the half marathon! Plus, I worked all day in Queens. I came home, watched Game of Thrones, and went to sleep.

total distance: 18.2 miles

This week wasn’t what I was hoping, but with lots of stress from work, it’s not shocking. I’m taking next week off from running, since I’ll be working crazy hours. It happens to be my birthday week, so I may replace the weekly recap with something more introspective. Have a great week!
